Zelkova schneideriana seed
Zelkova schneideriana or Zelkova a perennial woody deciduous member of the Zelkova genus in the family Ulmaceae. Zelkova schneideriana is a deciduous growing to 30 m (98ft 5in) at a fast rate. Z. schneideriana is also a typical element of ’s unique temperate to subtropical humid forests, dominated by deciduous trees but intermixed with a relatively large proportion of evergreen species. Z. schneideriana and Z. sinica are found only in China. Rapid habitat transformation and logging represent major threats.
– best sown in a cold frame as soon as it is ripe. Stored seed requires stratification and should be sown as early in the year as possible. Germination rates are variable. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and grow them on in the greenhouse for their first winter. Plant them out into their permanent positions in late spring or early summer, after the last expected frosts.
