This is deciduous Asiatic shrub to 5 m (17ft) tall, but commonly smaller (2-3 m = 7-10 ft). Very frost hardy (to zone 6). Monoecious. It creates (in July) – within 4-5 years from seed – edible delicious orange-red mulbery-like fruits (which taste like figs). Rarity. Seeds of open pollinated plants (they can be hybrid because near grows also B. papyrifera).
