Heliopsis helianthoides – Early Sunflower
Known by a number of common names, this is a perennial wildflower that grows up to 150 cm tall with a spread of around 90 cm or so. It starts blooming in late June and continues for the next 2 – 3 months. The flowers are long lasting and make good cut flowers.
Tolerant of a wide range of growing conditions, this species is suitable for Zones 4 – 9. Ideally suited for a wildlife or wildflower garden, this plant is extremely attractive to both butterflies and birds. It will also add charm to a cottage garden planting with the sunflowers waving gently in any breeze.
